Polar Plunge at Lake Lure on New Year’s Day

Lake Lure Polar Plunge
If your new year’s resolution for 2013 includes doing something unique and a little adventurous, take the Polar Plunge into the chilly waters of beautiful Lake Lure, North Carolina. This annual event is a fundraiser for the local volunteer fire department and includes prizes for best costume, youngest, oldest and plunger who traveled the furthest. If you are not up for a chilly dip, watch from the Lake Lure Beach with some hot chocolate and cookies by the bonfire.

The plunge happens at 12 Noon. Registration is 10:30 until 11:30 AM. Registration for the plunge is $15 and includes an official New Year’s Polar Plunge toboggan. Plungers are encouraged to dress in costumes. Don’t forget to bring your water shoes and towel. Spectators are welcome and admitted free of charge.

Lake Lure is near Chimney Rock in the Hickory Nut Gorge, about 27 miles from downtown Asheville. For more information, go to our Lake Lure Polar Plunge Guide.
