The nation’s longest running folk festival is next weekend in downtown Asheville. The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival runs Thursday through Saturday, August 4, 5, & 6, at 7:00 PM nightly at Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place in downtown Asheville. Come one night or all three! This three-day event showcases real mountain performers who share songs and dances that echo centuries of Scottish, English, Irish, Cherokee and African heritage. Each evening is a joyful exploration of the rich culture found in the valleys and coves between the Great Smokies and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
On opening Night August 4, arrive early for the 6:30-7 PM pre-show featuring cultural dance by Cherokee’s Warriors of AniKituhwa.
Festival patrons can park off-street, at the parking garage on Biltmore Avenue – which also provides wheelchair access to the Festival – or at the various parking garages located throughout downtown Asheville.
Tickets are just $20 per night, $10 for kids, or $54 for all three nights. Tickets: 828-257-4530 or www.dwtheatre.com.
